On April 28, 1944, the University of Minnesota, at the behest of president Walter C. Coffey, established the Committee on the Coordination of Advisory Services for Veterans. Edmund Griffith (E.G.) Williamson was born on August 14, 1900 in Rossville, Illinois. He received a B.A. degree from the University of Illinois in 1925 and his Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1931. Dr. Williamson joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota in 1931 as assistant professor of psychology and director of the testing and counseling bureau (1931-1938). The Office of the Dean of Students was created by action of the Board of Regents on June 13, 1917. It was the outgrowth of the work which had been done for several years by Edward E. Nicholson, as chair of the Students' Work Committee of the College of Science, Literature and the Arts.
